Reggae's Grammy Campaign

Reggae's Grammy Campaign

Posted by The Editor on Wed, Jan 20th 2010, 11:18

It seems like those Grammy people don't know a whole lot about reggae.  Cue Cristy Barber - VP of Marketing and Promotions at VP Records.  Using her New York base, the Grammy nominated producer (2005's 'Def Jamaica' compilation for Island/Def Jam) is spearheading an informational media campaign for her industry cohorts.

Barber also intends to rock the vote by recruiting at least 100 members of the Recording Academy from this behemoth of a global reggae industry, all of whom will be eligible to vote during the 2011 elections.  There is no word yet on if Haitian reggae stars will be in this line up.  Barber hopes that her efforts will ensure the recognition of worthy reggae artists (hint:  not Vybz Kartel) by the Recording Academy.
