K for Exclusive

In Trinidad, it’s fairly easy to get into any nightclub – you dress right, look clean, flash a smile and you’re inside. And as soon as the local nightlife was starting to become incredibly prosaic, we breathed a sigh of relief at the opening of a club that stands in full view of everyone, has a by-invitation-only policy, and won’t let you in.
Say hello to Katalyst, Trinidad’s newest nightspot that seems to have the sole purpose of resurrecting the art of exclusivity. The brainchild of Evered Carter and Richard Jardine, previous owners of the now-defunct Base nightclub, Katalyst has commandeered the corner of Rust and Gray Streets in the St. Clair suburb of Port of Spain – perfectly situated to sate the unquenchable cocktails-after-work appetite of ad execs in the area.
A lesson in nightclub interior design, Katalyst’s architectural lighting, trendy accessories and zoned entertainment is all your naughty club fantasies rolled into one. Venture out onto the Deck and enjoy the open air entertainment, or kick back in the Lounge – with its uniquely urban and chic design. The upstairs club is just how you like your clubs done: low lights and high volume. Put simply, it is Premium everything: cocktails, food, atmosphere and security.
But we did notice a side door…
